Coventry NIHL Blaze were formed in 2007-8 for the then ENL league as a feeder team for the Elite League Blaze. They have continued in the newly formed NIHL league in 2012. Currently the team are in the 10 team NIHL North Laidler Conference. The NIHL Blaze is finaced and run independently from both the Elite team and Academy.
The team aim to provide the stepping stone from Junior Ice Hockey into the Senior Leagues. We aim to balance the team with some older experienced players with players moving from U20. We also use our links with the Coventry Academy to provide playing up and playing opportunities for U20 and U18 players. We judge success when players progress into higher leagues or making selection to National teams.
With Sean Alderson joining the team as head coach 2017 will closer cooperation between the NIHL Blaze and Academy. We hope to see more players taking the chance to train and play with the NIHL team.
The team is run as a non profit organisation. To cover ice and running costs players have to pay a membership fee to play and train. Sponsors also help greatly towards keeping the team going.
