The NIHL Blaze put in a gutsy performance tonight against a strong Barons side who finished in the top four of the Moralee Division (Division 1) last season.

Speaking to NIHL Blaze Head Coach, Sean Alderson after tonight’s game he said...

“We knew it would be a backs against the wall type of game tonight but considering the offensive firepower the Barons have I felt we defended very well.”

“A couple of mistakes led to a couple of cheap goals but other than that I felt we gave a good account of ourselves.”

“Having just started back this week the team has come a long way in just a few days and I can only see us getting stronger as we get everyone back in (from holidays, etc) and get a few more training sessions together.”

Despite a reasonable first period (1-2) the NIHL Blaze struggled to cope with Telford’s top Line of Bowley, Jets and Griffin tonight with the trio scoring 7 of their teams 8 goals.

“Considering we just came back training this week I felt we had a decent first period but we struggled to get to grips with some of the new rules that have come into play this season.”

“There is no question that we were second best tonight but I felt the scoreline flattered them a little, however, there are still some positives we can take from tonight’s game.”

“We will also be much better equipped once we get everyone in and/or back from holidays, etc and we’ve had a few more training sessions together.”

The NIHL Blaze’s lone goal tonight was scored on the power play by Daniel Mulcahy with Oliver Lord and Andrew Hayward picking up the assists
